Heritage Displays

Step back in time to an era before smartphones, modern conveniences and nicely surfaced roads! A time when goods were crafted by the hands of skilled artisans and the settlement of Australia was just beginning…

When you attend one of our Heritage Displays you get to meet and witness in action, one of Australia’s last working bullockies and his very strong friends, the Gleneden Bullock Team. With a lifelong interest in Australian crafts and pioneering heritage, Rohan the bullocky has travelled nationally and internationally to learn the traditional crafts of blacksmithing, wagon building, wheel-wrighting, greenhide leatherwork, bush timberwork, bullock driving and the (sometimes) colourful language of the Australian bullocky. These crafts are just some of the bush heritage skills that settlers and our forefathers (and their families) needed to live, survive (and do their best to thrive) in the often very harsh untouched Australian bush during the colonial period.

Our displays include the ‘Tricks of the Trade’ and a ‘Walk in the Woodland’ and are suitable for groups of all ages. We have been providing Heritage Displays on and off farm for over 20 years for seniors, interest groups, families and schools and design our displays to suit your needs and abilities.

Duration is approximately two hours and we keep it highly entertaining throughout. Morning/ afternoon tea of Billy Tea and Damper is available upon request.

As you can imagine, it takes a bit of effort to prepare one of our heritage displays. For this reason, bookings are essential.

Bullocky and Saw Mill for Hire

Rohan the Bullocky and the Gleneden Bullock Team are also available for shows, festivals, events, birthdays or weddings for something unique and original. We have been providing Bullock Team and Bush Craft (blacksmithing, bush timberwork & greenhide) displays for over 20 years.

Rohan also has a mobile saw-mill and is available for milling timber on-site. Please contact us for more information.

Tricks of the Trade

Step back in time and let Rohan the Bullocky teach you the tricks of the bullocky trade while you sit in the shade of the Pepperina tree. With his laid back Australian humour, Rohan will explain and demonstrate the special relationship that develops between a bullocky and his bullocks and the history of the Teams in Australia. You will also learn how to yoke up, train your bullocks, make the gear and hook onto the wagon so you’re ready to start a day’s work. The display is designed specifically for your group when booking and can include a demonstration of the bullocky’s trades including bullock yoking, wagon loading, bush blacksmithing, timberwork and greenhide leather work, loading wagons and even special tricks.

This tour is ideal for those who are less mobile and requires minimal walking. Shaded seating for up to 60 is provided.

Cost: $25 pp (min booking $250)

Morning/Afternoon Tea: Billy Tea & Damper extra $10pp. Gluten free available

Walk in the Woodland

Hear the rattle of the chain and the call of the Bullocky as you take a walk in the woodland with one of Queensland’s last working bullock teams. Watch Rohan the Bullocky yoke up his team and then head out together into the bush to collect and snig home a log. Then back at the yards to relax with some Billy Tea and damper and have a good ol’ yarn around the fire. This is a rare opportunity to see one of Australia’s last bullock teams in action. Ideal for smaller groups less than 30.

Cost: $25 pp (min booking $250)

Duration: Approx 2hrs

Morning/Afternoon Tea: Billy Tea & Damper $10pp. Gluten free available.

Please note: This walk is over uneven terrain through the bush. A hat, water, sturdy walking shoes and the ability to walk for approximately 1km is essential.
